Link a Question to a Demographic

For dropdown questions where responses are not shown in reporting, you may want to link those responses to a demographic you can use to filter your other survey data. For example, if you are asking participants to select their work location, you can link that question to a work location demographic. This will allow the responses given by participants to be automatically created as a demographic you can use in reporting.

Responses for dropdown questions do not calculate in favorability scores in reports. You need to link these questions to a demographic to view data in your reports. If not linked, results are only available in the raw data export.

Link Your Question to a Demographic

Create the questions within your survey to be able to link them to a demographic. For dropdown questions, use "+add answer choices" to create the response options available to your survey participants. You can add all choices at once by hitting enter on your keyboard after each entry or copy and paste from a separate document into the text box. Each answer option must be on its own line.

Although multiple question types can be linked to a demographic, it is recommended to use dropdown question types when asking demographic questions within a survey (location, tenure, department).

Demographics must be created in the PEOPLE tab before they can be linked to a question.

To link the question to a demographic, use the link to a demographic dropdown menu. Select the correct demographic from the menu list.
The response selected when a participant takes their survey will be automatically mapped to the selected demographic as the demographic item in reporting.

If you have a single select question linked to a demographic, you may want to use the "apply demographic conversion" feature. This allows you to convert responses from a Likert scale to new demographic items so that survey responses (agree, disagree) are not populating in reports. Instead you can create a conversion so that a response of strongly agree or agree shows up as "Agreement" for the demographic item in reporting.
