Anonymous Surveys

Anonymous surveys provide you the option to collect feedback using a general survey link that does not connect employee demographics to survey responses.

When should I create an anonymous survey?

Anonymous surveys are an option when it's challenging to collect or maintain employee contact details in your HRIS. This includes work and personal emails, as well as phone numbers. They can also serve as a useful substitute for anonymous voting or traditional suggestion boxes.

It is not recommended to conduct regular employee voice surveys anonymously unless it is necessary. There are drawbacks to using anonymous surveys, such as:

  • Participation can't be accurately tracked.
  • Survey participants may take the survey multiple times.
  • Including self-select demographic questions in surveys can result in unreliable data if participants provide incorrect information.
  • The People Element Platform does not handle any communication with survey participants, so all communications must be conducted internally.

What are self-select demographic questions?

Self-select demographic questions will ask survey participants to identify certain demographic information such as gender, department, tenure, etc. Including these questions in anonymous surveys allows users with access to survey data to view and filter data by the demographic items.

We recommend that self-select demographic questions are not required to be responded to by the survey participants. Requiring a response can lead to more false self-identifications of these demographics.

When should I utilize multiple responses?

With multiple responses turned on, this allows the survey to be completed by multiple people on one device. This is helpful if multiple people use the same work computer or you plan to set up a kiosk station where all employees are welcome to complete the survey.

To turn on multiple responses you will first need to toggle on "Lock responses" and then toggle on "Multiple response". Once multiple response is toggled on (blue) the lock responses toggle will turn grey and will not be able to be turned off.

Why won't my survey URL work?

When creating an anonymous survey, it is important to make sure that the survey URL is unique. If the URL matches that of another survey in your my surveys list, you will be prompted to change it before saving. Keep in mind that even if a survey with a matching URL has been deleted, you still need to choose a different URL to avoid any issues with access. It is recommended to use the survey name within the URL to prevent duplication.
